How Does Bang Chan Help With Mental Health and stress management?
I was laying on my bed on a Sunday morning, 2019 on October 20th. I got a notification “CHAN’s “Room” 🐺 Ep. 42” I was happy to see a rapper I admire being live so I sit up and watch. Bang Chan was talking about ways to relieve stress, but one thing he said has stuck with me, “Just don’t hurt yourself…Just because you have a lot of stress, it doesn’t mean that you have to relieve it by hurting yourself or going to ways that might really disadvantage you. That, I really don’t recommend because you never know what’s going to happen in the future” I felt like he was only talking to me, it made me realize that hurting myself was a horrible way to relieve my stress.
Bang Chan was born on October 3, 1997 (age 23) in Seoul, South Korea. Bang Chan is a rapper and the leader of the boyband Stray Kids, He also helps with producing songs. The fandom name for stray kids is STAY. He has one younger sister, named Hannah, and one younger brother named Lucas. Chan said he moved to Sydney, Australia when he was very young, before leaving Sydney, he went to Newtown High School of the Performing Arts. He wanted to become a singer because he liked to make people have a good time since he was a kid. He joined JYP Entertainment in 2010 after passing an audition in Australia, He trained for 7 years. Bang Chan is known for the kind words of advice he gives to fans, including his speech on stress management.
Bang Chan explains the meaning behind stray kids, “the term stray kids means kids who are astray, right? And I guess we are called Stray Kids but we’re kids who are astray. And I’m pretty sure, there’s a lot of kids out there, a lot of people out there not only kids, but it could also be adults as well, it could be teenagers, adults, parents” he also says “But a lot of people can feel astray sometimes. It could be mentally, physically… But to know that you guys all are astray but you’re astray with us… I just wanna say I feel like that itself is just very powerful and I just wanna say thank you to guys for being astray with us.”
Whenever I would get a notification of his lives, I would always stop what I was doing just to watch it, sometimes I would get in trouble for skipping chores, but it was worth it. I loved to see a person I love to talk about something I struggle with. He made me feel stronger. “If you really can’t help it, or if you really just don’t know what to do or if you’re really lost, as I’ve always said come here, look for me, ask me, talk with me, and I’ll try my best to relieve your stress if I can help.” He made us know that he is here for us. Not only has Bang Chan talked about mental health during his lives, but also in some of his lyrics. At the end of the day, the way he represents himself the best and the way he chooses to convey his message is through Stray Kids’ music. In the song ‘Grow Up’ He says “It’s alright, we just need to go through it and grow, don’t cry, If you fall back a little, just rest. You’re doing fine when things are hard. I’ll run with you, don’t worry. Get up and roll up your sleeves, don’t give up” This talks about going through the hard times in life, how he is always there for you. In the song Mixtape#1, the lyrics state “Optimism to heal me when I get hurt. The placebo I’m using to continue believing in myself. Honestly speaking, there’s no need for pessimism. Trusting in myself, throwing trivial thoughts away” This talks about trusting yourself and not listening to hurtful thoughts.
